Romans 10:9 gives us the invitation to salvation, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” That’s a wonderful invitation. Verses 10 through 11 from that same chapter provide the explanation as it says, “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confessions are made unto salvation.”
After you acknowledge your sins, profess your faith and are forgiven by Christ, you receive the precious gift of salvation. Once you are “saved”, you are submerged into water as a symbol of a sin-stained being and arise thereof as a new being in Christ. This divine process represents the forgiveness and cleansing from sin that comes through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It also identifies you (as the believer) with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.
